Fragrance layering guide
Bergamot & Sandalwood
Bergamot over sandalwood is the most forgiving accord in modern perfumery: a sharp, sunlit citrus opening that dissolves into warm, milky wood. It reads polished at nine in the morning and intimate at nine at night.
How to layer it
- 1Apply the sandalwood base first to warm, unscented skin — pulse points at the wrist and the base of the throat.
- 2Wait ninety seconds so the wood settles rather than mixing wet-on-wet.
- 3Spray the bergamot composition once at the chest and once into the air, then walk through it.
- 4Skip the neck if you are wearing wool — the fibres hold citrus badly and turn it sour by midday.
- 5Refresh only the citrus after six hours; the sandalwood is still working.
