Rose & Oud
Rose and oud is the highest-contrast pairing in perfumery — a bright, jammy floral pressed against smoky, medicinal resin. Handled carelessly it overwhelms a room. Handled precisely it is unforgettable.
How to layer it
- 1Start with the oud, and start with less than you think — a single spray at the sternum.
- 2Let it develop for a full three minutes; raw oud needs skin heat to lose its sharp edge.
- 3Add the rose at the wrists only, so the floral arrives as movement rather than a wall.
- 4Never apply to hair or scarves — the resin lingers in fibres for days.
- 5Reserve for cool weather; heat pushes this accord past its intended volume.
